We are tentatively scheduled to gather for Prayers & Squares on Thursday, July 11, 2019 in Fellowship Hall 1 & 2 from 10am to 3pm. Your presence, whether to observe or possibly help, will be welcome anytime. We are all blessed to be serving while having lots of fun. If you’ll be joining us for lunch, please bring a lunch and a beverage and you will enjoy a meal and great conversation! Refrigerators and a microwave are available. Please, in case there is a schedule change, contact me at the phone number or email listed below to see if there has been a change or cancellation.

Many of you have participated in a quilt tying after all three services on a given Sunday when someone is in need of prayer. Sometimes, I observe that folks are kind of unsure about the process, so let me write some notes here to explain what is done. Most often, I do not know who may need a prayer quilt until I get a call or email from someone telling me of the situation. Once I’m contacted and know someone is in need, I contact the possible recipient and get their permission to present a prayer quilt to them. Prayer quilts are never a surprise or intended as a gift to celebrate a special occasion. Once permission is given, I gather information so that when you come to Fellowship Hall, I can often tell you who is in need of prayer and why, IF they agree to tell me. I include this info on a “tent” card placed on the quilt. There are 96 ties on each quilt. We tie the first knot in our workshops. Once you choose where you want to tie a prayer, you are encouraged to hold the strands on that particular position on the quilt, while saying your prayer for the recipient, and then tie your prayer to the quilt by adding another knot (or two or three) to the quilt. Your prayer now becomes part of the fabric of this person’s prayer quilt. When they cover themselves with the quilt, they are wrapped in the prayers and love of God’s people.

Suggestions on the tying/praying process: please just tie a simple knot; if you attempt to make your “tie” a special design or want it to stand out from the others, it usually complicates and/or makes trimming the ties more difficult in order to prepare it for the recipient. Should you have questions, I am usually nearby the quilt and you would be welcome to ask me any questions you might have. Greeting cards for the recipient are placed near the quilt. Please use the back of the card for signing as well as the inside. Please limit conversation while at the table. Other folks are praying and it would be most helpful for each of us to be as quiet as possible.

The purpose of Prayers & Squares Ministry is to encourage the prayer life of our congregation. Simply put, “it is NOT about making quilts, it’s ALL ABOUT THE PRAYERS! Hope to see you or talk with you soon.
